Real Time Stream Flow Data

Not only is it necessary to compute the concentration of a certain contaminant in a stream, but the total amount , or load, of a contaminant need also to be determined.  In order to do this, the flow of the stream must be known.  The USGS has real time stream flow data for the following stream locations that were sampled:

• Iowa River near Marshaltown
• Iowa River at Iowa City
• Winnebago River at Mason City
• Cedar River at Waterloo
• Cedar River at Cedar Rapids
• Des Moines River at Fort Dodge
• South Skunk River near Ames
• Des Moines River near Saylorville (Upstream of Des Moines)
• Raccoon River at Van Meter
• Des Moines River below Raccoon River at Des Moines
• Des Moines River at Ottumwa
• Ocheyedan River near Spencer

To see any other of Iowa's or the rest of the USGS real time stream flow sites, click here.  For the sites that were sampled, and are not listed here, a direct discharge measurement was made at the time of sampling.
